No Poverty
Endowment fund of KBTU (2018 – currently active)
The KBTU Endowment Corporate Foundation (KBTU-ECF) is a
non-profit organization of the Kazakh-British Technical University Joint-Stock Company. It was established by a decision of the KBTU Board of Directors under the Protocol No. 1 dated February 28, 2018.
Purpose of the Corporate Fund:
• Finding, organizing charitable donations and sponsorships for the enhancement of educational, scientific, sports and cultural activities at the KBTU. Support charity work and entrepreneurships in the University
• Sponsoring KBTU’s public, scientific and educational initiatives and infrastructure development projects
• Building professional relationships with public and private organizations and institutions both inside and outside the Republic of Kazakhstan and seek charitable assistance/sponsorships for educational, scientific, sports & cultural activities and entrepreneurship at KBTU
• The development of programs and carrying out activities aimed at providing charitable and sponsorship assistance in the field of education, science, culture, sports, entrepreneurship
• Assistance to organizations, including state and international, in the development and implementation of the activities and programs in the field of education, science, culture, sports, art, entrepreneurship in the framework of charitable and sponsorship assistance
Social projects to facilitate education among children from orphanage
Faculties and Institutes of KBTU involved: Business School, Department for Student Affairs, KBTU Alumni, international students.
On the 1st of December 2019, international students of KBTU visited the Almaty Orphanage No. 1. As a result, during the summer of 2020, group of international students spent three months teaching children from the orphanage English and Chinese languages.

KBTU Startup Incubator
Results of startup incubation within the elective discipline “Startups & Technological Entrepreneurship” and business incubator "KBTU startup incubator".
SDG 4
Quality Education
For 2017-2021, more than 100 teams came with ideas to the KBTU Startup Incubator. Several MCIs were selected. More than 50 startup teams have reached the stage of the minimum viable product (MVP). As a result, there are 27 projects left, the founders of which continue to engage in startups after the end of the incubation program and the subject "Startups and Technological Entrepreneurship", including 3 startups created MVO, that is, they were legally registered as an individual entrepreneur or LLP.
During all this time, KBTU startup students attended more than 1000 events of the innovation ecosystem, won more than 10 competitions and more than $ 20,000 in cash prizes. For each new stream of incubation, several dozen applications are submitted from students of ALL faculties. Detailed information can be found on the website startup.kbtu.kz.

SDG 5
Gender Equality
KBTU current projects:
“Supporting the Economic Empowerment of Afghan Women through Education and Training in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan” (2020-2025)
The program, funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by UNDP, allows Afghan women to study at universities in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The initiative aims to provide educational opportunities for women from Afghanistan. Overall, within the framework of the program, 50 women will receive education at the universities of Central Asia by 2025.The first group of Afghan women arrived in Almaty in October 2019. In 2020, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan welcomed the new group of winners of the educational scholarship. After completing the language courses, the project participants will receive education at various universities in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan under the bachelor's, master's and TVET (Technical and Vocational education and training) programs in agriculture, finance/statistics and mining. 29 women from Afghanistan will be trained at KBTU. In 2020, 19 Afghan students started their studies at the KBTU Business School.
Women Empowerment
In 2020, a group of KBTU alumni founded leadership network (Women Empowerment@KBTU) with the goal to connect students, alumni, administrators and faculty of KBTU. Our ambition is to provide an arena for networking and a platform from which to address issues of particular concern to women in the KBTU community and beyond.
SDG 6
Clean Water and Sanitation
As the academic and educational community plays an important role in the implementation of the SDGs. KBTU has contributed to the implementation of water-related education programs to increase student awareness of safe drinking water, reduce mortality from water-borne diseases, and improve hygiene to reduce health risks associated with unsafe drinking water and lack of sanitation. These programs aim to motivate the community to become water stewards in their homes, classrooms, and communities.
SDG 7
Affordable and Clean Energy
KBTU projects are within the following areas: hydrogen energy, application of decarbonization methods in the oil industry, solar and wind energy.
Faculties involved: School of Nanotechnology and Nanomaterials.
Potential Partners: Total, Bureau of Green Technologies, Technical University of Munich (Germany).
High-performance wind turbine designed and engineered in KBTU. Kazakhstan received a patent and a positive decision to grant a patent to 38 countries in Europe and America. Currently operating on the shores of Lake Kapshagay.
Multistage wind turbine KBTU
In the Kazakh-British Technical University under the guidance of a doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor Nussupov K.Kh. new developments in the field of wind energy are created and patented (USA, European Union, Kazakhstan).
Bifacial solar batteries KBTU
The purpose of the development is the creation of a domestic production of bifacial silicon solar batteries with high efficiency 16% on each side, with the formation of p-n-junctions, passivating layers, diffusion barriers, ohmic contacts and antireflection coatings to the front and back sides of solar cells by using the technologies of ion implantation, magnetron sputtering, electron-beam and ion-beam treatment. The roof of KBTU is also equipped with solar panels.

Decent Economic Work and Economic Growth
Kazakh-British Technical University follows the Labour Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and do not discriminate employees based on sex, age, physical disabilities, race, nationality, language, material, social or official position, place of residence, attitude to religion, political convictions, tribe or social stratum or membership of public associations.
According to the standard employment contract of KBTU, an employee has a right for:
6.1.10. protection of their rights and legitimate interests in all ways that do not contradict the law, protection of their professional honor and dignity;
6.1.11. an appeal for consideration of an individual labor dispute in the manner prescribed by the current legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
SDG 9
Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
The Smart City laboratory was opened under the program of Innovative solutions for large urbanized systems based on KBTU in the city of Almaty. It was launched in 2020. The activities of Almaty Smart City Lab are aimed at training IT personnel and solving urban problems using digital solutions. The partners in the creation of the laboratory were the international Swiss organization IGLUS, as well as the Digitalization Department of Almaty.

Reduced Inequalities
To facilitate the studies of students, Kazakh-British Technical University has discounts, grants, scholarships for KBTU students which are allocated based on student’s academic performance and the need.
“KBTU Alumni Scholarship” gives advantage to:
- orphans and children left without parental care;
- disabled children.
- students from large families

Responsible Consumption and Production
KBTU POLICY IN THE FIELD OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION:
Implementation of the policy of KBTU JSC in the field of environmental protection is based on the following principles:

implementation of educational, scientific and production processes at an environmentally friendly level;

application of the best available technologies in solving issues of the University functioning as an integral organization;

creation of a comfortable and safe environment for humans without damage to the environment;

implementation of interdisciplinary and international projects aimed at studying relationships in the “nature - society - person” system;

Climate Action
Kazakh-British Technical University actively hosts regional, national and international conferences on the topic of energy transition and new innovations in the field of energy. Among recent conferences are:
The International Forum On Innovating And Modernizing Energy And Water In Central Asia
This international forum provided a much needed platform for strengthening regional cooperation. Participants had the opportunity to share their views on broader areas related to energy and water as the foundation of social development, including:
• renewable energy sources,
• decarbonization of energy-intensive industries,
• circular carbon economy, innovation and trade.

Partnership for the Goals
WeAlmaty was a three-year initiative that was designed to help Almaty city realize its 2020 development vision around culture, business, and active citizenship by supporting the mutual work of local authority leaders and civil society. The "WeAlmaty" project was implemented by a coalition of partners consisting of the British Council Kazakhstan, Kazakh-British Technical University, Almaty Akimat, and the Almaty Development Centre with financial support from the European Union in Kazakhstan.
One of the main goals of the WeAlmaty project was to create a dialogue platform for building communications between civil society, the private sector and local governments. As part of the implementation of this platform, the team of the "WeAlmaty" project and our partners held 9 forums. Representatives of government agencies, entrepreneurs, civil society - persons with disabilities, schoolchildren and students, and many others took part in these forums. The forums allowed all stakeholders to gather on a single platform, with the aim of deepening and sharing knowledge, ideas, vision for the development of our city.
